Building Inspection

As a property owner, you're completely invested. That's why the Polk County Building Inspection department has made it their mission to protect that investment by providing inspection services on residential and commercial buildings. This process helps make sure compliance requirements are met with the minimum provisions of mandatory building codes, as required by state law. These enforcements provide health, safety, and welfare of the general public, tax payers, and citizens.

NOTICE: OFFICE PROCEDURES

ADDRESS ISSUING PROCEDURES

Polk County Building Inspection provides addresses only to commercial businesses and inhabited residential dwellings.

Addresses will not be issued to:

  • Vacant properties
  • Agricultural land or farms without an inhabited residence
  • Outbuildings, sheds, storage units, or other non-habitable structures
  • Any property that is not legally suitable for occupancy

Our procedures ensure that addresses are assigned only to locations that are actively occupied and suitable for habitation or business operation.

 TEMPORARY POWER (T-POLE) PROCEDURES

Per Polk County Building Inspection office policy, the placement of a T-pole (temporary power) is not permitted without an approved building permit.

Exceptions may be granted as necessary for:

  • Well installation
  • Gate operation
  • Additional approved structures

FORMS AND APPLICATIONS

NOTICE: ALL FORMS MUST BE RETURNED AND PAID FOR IN-PERSON. AT THIS TIME, WE CANNOT ACCEPT PAYMENT VIA PHONE OR EMAIL. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE.

All forms must be returned and paid for in-person. At this time, we cannot accept payment via phone or email. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please ensure that each item on the Required Inspection Checklist pertaining to your inspection has been completed prior to scheduled inspection.
A $50 reinspection fee will be changed for inspections scheduled that are not ready when the inspector arrives.
