- GRILLING SAFETY
- There’s nothing like outdoor grilling. It’s one of the most popular ways to cook food. But a grill placed too close to anything that can burn is a fire hazard. It can be very hot, causing burn injuries. Learn simple tips and you will be on the way to safe grilling.
- THANKSGIVING SAFETY
- Keeping fire safety top of mind in the kitchen during this joyous but hectic time is important, especially when there’s a lot of activity and people at home. As you start preparing your holiday schedule and organizing that large family feast, remember, by following a few simple safety tips you can enjoy time with your loved ones and keep yourself and your family safer from fire.
- WINTER HOLIDAY SAFETY
- Festive celebrations, flickering lights and winter greens are hallmarks of the holiday season, but they also present fire risks that can quickly turn this festive time of year into a devastating one. NFPA works to educate the public about potential fire risks during the holidays, offering tip sheets, videos, and other resources to help everyone safely enjoy the season.
- COLD WEATHER SAFETY
- Heating, holiday decorations, winter storms and candles all contribute to an increased risk of fire during the winter months. NFPA and the U.S. Fire Administration are teaming up to put a FREEZE on winter fires and help reduce your risk to fires and other hazards, including carbon monoxide.
- WILDFIRE SAFETY
- The NFPA Wildfire Division provides free resources to residents and safety professionals to help ensure everyone living in communities at risk has the information, knowledge, and tools to prepare and protect their homes from the threat of wildfire.
- FIRE SAFETY FOR SENIORS
- Knowing what to do in the event of a fire is particularly important for older adults. At age 65, people are twice as likely to be killed or injured by fires compared to the population at large. And with our numbers growing every year - in the United States and Canada, adults age 65 and older make up about 12 percent of the population - it's essential to take the necessary steps to stay safe.
- HOME HEATING SAFETY
- Heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fire deaths. Fire departments responded to an estimated average of 38,881 fires involving heating equipment per year from 2019-2023, accounting for 12% of all reported home fires during this time, and these fires resulted in estimated annual 432 civilian deaths, 1,352 civilian injuries, and $1.1 billion in property damages.
-
- According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in 2021 there were nine deaths and around 11,500 injuries as a result of fireworks. As of July 1, 2015, all consumer fireworks are legal in Georgia. Consumer fireworks are defined as any small fireworks device designed primarily to produce visible or audible effects by combustion as approved by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
